Combating humidity

Dehumidification when storing defence technology, ammunition and military equipment

Combating humidity

Dry storage for expensive equipment

The requirements for the storage of helicopters, vehicles, uniforms and ammunition for the military are the same as for many other lines of industry, successfully deploying our solutions: It is necessary to fight humidity in order to prevent the formation of mould, failures of the electronic system, chemical reactions and corrosion. For this purpose, military planners will find efficient dehumidifiers and innovative measuring devices in our range of products.

In the services numerous scenarios arise requiring a powerful and constantly controllable dehumidification system. Our experiences from the automobile and chemical industry as well as the logistics sector qualify us as a specialist to meet these specific requirements. For example military vehicles, aircrafts, helicopters and defence technology such as tanks, anti-aircraft guns or smoke mortars must be protected against moisture to ensure their operational readiness at all times. This applies to both the storage in depots and during transport in areas of operation by sea, air or land.

Dehumidification in the ammunition dump ensures operational readiness

Moreover, ammunition stored in underground magazines can react chemically and either be rendered completely useless or else does not work properly in the field – which makes for a highly dangerous scenario. Yet another challenge is dehumidification during a mission, e.g. climate conditioning of ammunition dumps or equipment using mobile technology.

Combating humidity

Stationary and mobile solution packages for dehumidification

Trotec provides manifold solutions suitable for military operations. The stationary desiccant dehumidifiers of the TTR series for instance dehumidify large vehicle halls, hangars and equipment depots. Furthermore, they can be placed outside ammunition dumps and dehumidify these using air fed from outside. With the heat recovery integrated as standard and the electronic energy management they rank among the most economic devices of their kind. The dehumidifiers of the TTR series are also available as smaller mobile versions and the TTR 250 Ex is suited for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Further suited for military action are the condenser dryers of the DH series in various performance classes for the dehumidification of storage facilities or sanitary areas. If the air is not only supposed to be dry, but warm, too, we recommend using electric heating devices and heating units. The robust high-performance heating device TEH 200, for instance, can withstand the harshest of conditions and was designed specifically for ambulant requirements in large-scale heating scenarios and corrosion protection applications.

Measurement technology is a key factor in this battle

Whether vehicle hall or ammunition dump, storage tent or uniform store: The battle against humidity can only be won with extremely reliable climate measuring devices and data loggers. For corrosion, mould growth, chemical reactions and failures of the electronic system can only be prevented at constantly low humidity levels.

Make use of our best practice industrial services

Make use of Trotec's best practice industrial services

Since every industrial undertaking has characteristic process flows, installations and facilities, every air treatment solution demands case-specific device configurations. All in all, the combined effects of air currents, humidity conditions and temperature fluctuations are often hard to calculate on a purely theoretical basis, e.g. in airlock areas or on conveying paths. The consequence: Unnecessary additional costs due to an overestimated demand or – even worse – solutions not working sufficiently in real life.

You can count on our experts

In order to precisely calculate the demand in the industry and to develop tailor-made concepts for climate conditioning experienced climate specialists are needed. Rely on our team of experts as well as the industrial services: We analyse the individual requirement situation with you present on site, determine the specific demand for devices and develop a tailor-made project solution right up to the exact positioning of the devices.

Before the planned stationary units are installed, our service team first works with mobile versions of the drying units as part of a trial run. These can be put up without any difficulty or the need for structural changes.

During this validation phase we document all relevant climate parameters such as air temperature, relative humidity, dew point or flow rate for a final optimization of the requirement calculation.

Trotec is the only provider of this advantage:

Thanks to the unique option of non-binding trial operation you will invest solely in solutions which have verifiably proven their worth in everyday operation meeting your individual on-site requirements. The stationary units will not be ordered until you are fully satisfied with our concept. The only costs incurred consist of an inexpensive hiring flat rate for the time of test operation.

Just give us a call at +49 2452 963-777 – our industry consultants will be pleased to help you personally and provide information regarding our best practice industrial services. Or send a request indicating your personal requirements directly to our industry experts. We will answer promptly!

Upon request, we also produce customized desiccant dehumidifiers as special models

Upon request, we will readily produce tailor-made desiccant dehumidifiers as special models “made in Germany” perfectly geared to your needs, e.g.:

  • TTR industrial desiccant dehumidifiers with hygienic design
  • TTR industrial desiccant dehumidifiers for PWIS-free dry air
  • TTR industrial desiccant dehumidifiers with extremely low dew point

Makes use of the possibility of having special models with tailored components for your individual needs planned, designed and manufactured in close consultation with our specialists.

Application examples for defence technology

  • Storage tents/marquees

As opposed to conventional warehouses, marquees and large storage tents are erected quickly and at low cost. The only challenges in the face of buildings – even with insulated marquees – are condensation and humidity control. Stationary high-performance dryers with hose systems for a consistent supply of dry air prevent moisture problems in advance.

  • Dry air storage

The requirements in dry air storage are very much alike in many industries: Bacterial growth on foodstuffs, powders going lumpy, corrosion on metal parts – all can be prevented, when the relative humidity is constantly kept below 50 %. A value of 70 % RH suffices as mould protection. The dehumidifiers of the TTR series along with the matching data loggers represent dehumidification systems which...
