In marquees: Studiously preventing condensation

Dehumidifiers protect goods and packaging inside the storage tent

As opposed to conventional warehouses, marquees and large storage tents are erected quickly and at low cost. The only challenges in the face of buildings – even with insulated marquees – are condensation and humidity control. Stationary high-performance dryers with hose systems for a consistent supply of dry air prevent moisture problems in advance.

Marquees constitute an effective solution for the storage of goods. Furthermore, such large storage tents are less expensive than a conventional solid depot. Plus you lose no time in obtaining an approval, since in most locations the simplified building permission procedure satisfies the building authorities. Stable girder constructions made of aluminium and steel make up the frame of the marquees, PVC tarps form the outer layer. In case of insulated tents, insulation elements and insulating blankets are added.

The typical problem of a marquee: Condensate dripping from the ceiling

Inside a marquee or a large storage tent there is often condensation dripping from the ceiling, depending on the temperature outside. The result: soaked cardboard packaging, mould on pallets, cardboard and stock. Moreover, there is corrosion damage like rust on stored metal parts, fork lifts or storage racks. Condensation and other problems arising from a too high humidity level are a constant challenge in marquees all year round. In the summer the high humidity level of more than 80 per cent poses a threat to the stock and in the winter there is a danger of frost damage due to the penetrated moisture. A heating system is therefore not a solution for winter storage – plus it spends too much energy. A professional dehumidification system on the other hand reliably prevents condensation in a marquee.

Desiccant dehumidifiers protect the goods during summer and winter

With the stationary desiccant dehumidifiers of the TTR series Trotec provides powerful , yet economic solutions for use in marquees: Feeding in dry air and discharging moisture in order to prevent condensation on the tent roof. The dehumidifiers can be set up in a weather-proof model or in containers outside the marquee. Dehumidifying the enormous amounts of air in a marquee requires the highest performance class: Within the TTR series, the desiccant dehumidifiers of type TTR 10000 with the Trisorp Dual principle of operation are made available by Trotec for this purpose. These dehumidifiers dehumidify up to 9,800 cubic metres of air per hour – i.e. even in large-dimensioned marquees humidity can be regulated with few devices. The TTR series further impresses with a very high dehumidification performance even at low dew point temperatures, with advanced Monoventic control electronics, premium fan, integrated heat recovery and microprocessor control with plain text display for function monitoring and energy management.

Dry air supply via hose systems in the storage tent ceiling

In order to regulate the humidity level uniformly throughout a marquee, ideally a hose system is installed at the ceiling to ensure the dry air supply. The desiccant dehumidifiers of type TTR 10000 come with the required power to transport dry air over long distances and to discharge humid air as well.

Make use of Trotec's best practice industrial services

Since every industrial undertaking has characteristic process flows, installations and facilities, every air treatment solution demands case-specific device configurations. All in all, the combined effects of air currents, humidity conditions and temperature fluctuations are often hard to calculate on a purely theoretical basis, e.g. in airlock areas or on conveying paths. The consequence: Unnecessary additional costs due to an overestimated demand or – even worse – solutions not working sufficiently in real life.

Even if passenger ships are supposed to be an extremely secure means of transport, the preparation for an emergency must be taken seriously. International regulations drafted under the auspices of the United Nations require that sea crews must be trained for the case of an evacuation as part of the safety precautions. To practice for an emergency under realistic conditions, fog machines are used....
