Better air quality with AirgoClean
Facts worth knowing about our breathing air and what makes room air cleaned with AirgoClean better
True HEPA filter
Not all HEPA filters are equal. Some suppliers for instance advertise with phrases such as "HEPA-like" or "comparable with HEPA filters" where the filter efficiency is specified. These however often do not comply with the classification of true HEPA filters, as are used for Trotec air cleaners of the AirgoClean series.
Qualified true HEPA filters have to pass a specific aerosol load test. With this so-called DOP test, a defined testing aerosol of particle size 0.3 µm is applied to the filter, which must show a filtration efficiency of at least 99.97 %. This means that no more than 3 of 10,000 particles of this size are allowed to pass through the filter.
All true HEPA filters of the AirgoClean air cleaners are DOP-tested and highly efficient. By contrast, filters merely dubbed "HEPA-like" are often cheaper, but less efficient, especially in case of biogenous and anthropogenic fine dust particles of less than 1 micrometre – and particularly those are to be restrained by a qualified air cleaner, so they cannot reach your lungs or blood stream.
AirgoClean air cleaners are AHAM-certified by the manufacturer. AHAM, based in the US, is an independent organization for the performance review of household appliances.
An AHAM-certified air cleaner affords the user the certainty that the "Clean Air Deliver Rate" (CADR) has been checked according to ANSI/AHAM standard AC 1 and the air cleaner was certified with CADR figures.
Effective filter system
AirgoClean air cleaners are equipped with a highly efficient activated carbon true HEPA filter combination.
The special AirgoClean activated carbon filter acts as catalyst reducing oxidizers from the air and at the same time absorbing air pollutants. Activated carbon has a highly porous structure where particles accumulate. The inner surface area of only 4 grams of activated carbon corresponds roughly to the size of a football pitch. Therefore, AirgoClean air cleaners do not need an additional third pre-filter for the true HEPA filter.
VOC – what are those?
VOC are substances, that evaporate already at low temperatures – hence "volatilize" into the gaseous state – and thus pollute the air. Which is why they are referred to as volatile organic compounds.
Manifold VOC sources can be found indoors, e.g. flooring and floor coating, paints and varnishes, sealings and adhesives, furniture and carpets. People can be taken chronically ill by VOC-polluted indoor air. This is also called the "sick building syndrome".
AirgoClean air purification without ionisation. Why?
Because ionisation does not reduce the amount of dust in the room. It merely charges it electrically, which results in the dust's settling on grounded surfaces, however still remaining in the room.
How to recognize the room air's dust pollution?
AirgoClean air cleaners are as standard equipped with a dust sensor and an additional VOC sensor. The air quality is continually measured and indicated on the display.
71 bath tubs full of breathing air per day
We only spend 20 % of our time outdoors, and 80 % indoors. Every day we breathe in more than 10,000 litres of air. This corresponds to a capacity of more than 71 bath tubs.
Inconspicuous sources of dust
A run-of-the-mill desk accommodates a hundred times more bacteria than the average kitchen. Carpets take up eight times of their own weight in pollutants. And furniture, laminate or panels can contain formaldehyde being emitted to the room air for decades.
Dust is omnipresent
The air in living or office spaces can be contaminated to a degree of up to ten times more than the air outside. Alone a teaspoonful of bedroom dust contains an average of 1,000 house dust mites and 250,000 faeces.
Each day approx. 6 mg of new dust per square metre are formed in living spaces. In offices there are additional evaporations from felt tips, adhesives and toners. One cubic metre of air can further contain up to 15,000 flu viruses.
